Why You Shouldn't Connect Your Sump Pump to the Sewer
Просмотров 482Месяц назад
Discharging your sump pump into the city's sanitary sewer system is bad news. While this might seem like an easier and more attractive option than running a discharge tube from the sump pump to the exterior, it's illegal in most cities here in Minnesota when the home is connected to the city sewer.

Nothing about home inspections causes more consternation than 'sealed' attic access panels; not just for the home inspector, but also for the buyer, the seller, and the real estate agents involved in the sale. Here at Structure Tech, we've worked out every angle of attic inspections, and we have some great policies in place to help eliminate problems for both buyers and sellers.

    I can post a picture of me and my structural engineer doing a facade inspection on a 15-story building and it will get a couple likes and comments...not much interest. If I post a picture of a sink trap and ask a simple question it will get 150 comments and start several arguments among home inspectors. Bizarre.

    Does this camera take dual images like the FLIR, both thermal and normal image simultaneously? Does FLIR's MSX technology provide a more presentable image for reporting given its lower image resolution when compared to the P2 Pro? Has the Android software been updated to fix the bugs you mentioned? It seems no one can give me a straight answer to these questions these days. I've also used the FLIR E6 and am underwhelmed given its asking price. Looking for a backup, but none fit the bill at the moment.

      That used to be common practice and was to code a number of years ago. However has not been allowed for a number of years. Two reasons. First plumbers don't like getting shocked. The other reason is that metallic pipe often gets replaced during repairs and upgrades.

    Important question: I bought a Titan N120 model. It is going on my bathroom wall. But in my little cabin the breaker box is in the kitchen. So, the plumber said, well your electric has already been inspected, so they make a special wiring that you can run from the Titan wiring and under your gravel (under the cabin) and then over to the breaker box in the kitchen. You don't have to have it in conduit. Please help...I was taught ALL wires running outside to the breaker box must be in conduit. I'm installing a 60 double pole breaker for it in the breaker box

    Of course the safest option, also the most expensive, is to run a new length of NM cable from the panel to wherever the ungrounded outlet dilemma is. For two main reasons. First is surge protection, a surge protector such as that 6 outlet strip behind the entertainment center, requires a true ground to shunt the surges away from the items plugged into it. And second, on some pieces of equipment the manufacturer's instructions indicate that it must be connected to a properly grounded circuit; if this is the case than article 110.3 (b) of the NEC applies, which states that equipment shall be installed and used in accordance with any instructions included in the listing, labeling or identification.

    • @Prometheus203
      @Prometheus203 6 дней назад

      A whole home surge arrestor can and should be installed at the panel as part of the upgrade.

    is gfci protection switch at the panel any safer than a gfci outlet ? I would think the outlet option is alot easier to install and a lot easier to test. If the switch option is no more safer than the outlet option; then outlet for the win right?

    • @StructureTech1
      @StructureTech1 8 дней назад

      No safer, but a GFCI circuit breaker adds protection for the entire circuit; not just one receptacle.

    • @psdaengr911
      @psdaengr911 6 дней назад

      @@StructureTech1 At the panel you have a ground reference. A remote outlet may have both the hot and neutral floating, with unbalanced return currents from other receptacles making the GFI receptacle unreliable for protection unless you have a local ground there. ( I've seen green grounding conductors within EMT that had induced voltages, discovered when a comm tech tried to use one as a signal ground. )

    • @BillHart46
      @BillHart46 3 дня назад

      @@psdaengr911A GFCI receptacle works exactly like GFCI breaker. It compares the current following through the hot conductor to that falling back through the neutral conductor. If there is a difference of more than a few milliamps then it will trip. It does not matter where or why there is a difference. Just that there's a difference.

    For 14 years, my husband had to get on our roof and clean all of the pine needles out of our gutters out that way. (It was a 2 story with a walkout basement and was too tall for a ladder. The one time he did something on a ladder, the ladder slipped a few feet so he didn't like going to the top of an extended ladder after that.) He hates heights and thankfully he never fell off of the roof. Then we moved to Las Vegas where they don't put gutters on roofs. We thought it was strange at first but since it only rains a few inches a year there, there isn't a need for them.

    I live in Minnesota: in your article, you mention grounding to the water pipes that come into your house. Does this include the water pipe where it enters in my utility room? Wanting to ground my csst as it’s pre rules to ground, but I have no idea how much I’d get charged if it’s involving going through a bunch of hoops

    Great video. A lot of hoops to go through and things to get blamed for (afterwards). I was thinking about small pets maybe getting inadvertently left behind in a crawl space or attic after sneaking in there and not being known. Also maybe a power source was turned off during the inspection and interrupted a device that was needed to be on continuously, like stopping a fish tank pump and left undiscovered. A tough job for sure. Be blessed!

    The Consumer Report gutter guard that I remember seeing was the micro-mesh type.. The thing about gutter guards that is outrageous, is the sleazy sales tactics and criminal prices that companies charge for installation. I installed GutterGlove micro-mesh covers and bought them at Home Depot for a penny on a dollar compared to what the sales criminals charge. And, I agree with you totally on maintenance. ALL gutter covers require it, contrary to the sales rep lies. I blow off my upper guards every year or two with my leaf blower. I use an extension pole with a brush attachment to knock off debris, occasionally, from my lower gutters.

    Not my dishwasher! I have a portable dishwasher which is a Kenmore and we all know this is really a Whirlpool dishwasher. I know that the good ones tell us not to rinse because of a sensor. Well my doesn't have a sensor. I also can't figure out how to clean the filter soooo I rinse because of the stink that's left in this gem. Actually this dishwasher can be cleaned by me I'm just not doing it as I am not ripping this thing apart not a simple filter on this dog. I clean enough living in the dirty mountains. Every critter around will get into our homes and it's no picnic. Some of those critters like hanging around the dishwasher. Ugh.

    I also found that the "light wash" on my Bosch dishwasher, which takes less than half the time, does the "normal" job just fine. Saves water as well as wear and tear on the dishwasher. Oh, and people should remember to clean their dishwasher filter regularly, if it has one (some have essentially a garbage disposal built in, so there is no need for a filter to catch large, undissolvable pieces).

    These two piece columns are used in Canada all the time and are code compliant as long as they are indicated for permanent use. The NBC ﴾National Building Code﴿ of Canada requires that adjustable steel columns conform to Article number CAN/CGSB‐7.2‐94 entitled “Adjustable Steel Columns,” which allows single‐tube adjustable columns and telescopic adjustable columns, even at tube diameters of less than 3 inches ﴾76 mm﴿.
